Citizens Utility Board of Wisconsin residential educational webinar covered all the tools, resources and programs that are available for residential consumers (both homeowners and renters) to address the rising costs of energy.
The Sept. 18 webinar hosted by CUB Board of Directors member Laura West-Kralcik featured insights from Brady Steigauf from Wisconsin Focus on Energy, and Richard Storck from CUB.

Storck shared information about pending increases linked to utility rate cases as well as a newly released outlook for natural gas costs this coming winter.
CUB is working to focus on the costs that can be controlled by the state Public Service Commission, with special attention on exorbitant utility profits that are well above the national average, unreasonable utility profiteering from retired coal plants, along with rising energy burdens and affordability issues many customers face.
Steigauf, Community Liaison Manager with the Focus on Energy program, unpacked Wisconsin’s Focus on Energy program, the new instant rebates that are coming for furnace or HVAC systems, as well as everything covered under the HOMES program of the Inflation Reduction Act.
Storck recommended utility customers check with their local utility to see if they could save by switching from a regular energy rate to a time of use rate. These rates provide customers with discounts for electricity consumed at night and on the weekend, and yield savings for people who shift their intensive energy-using activities, such as washing dishes and clothes or charging an electric vehicle, to the discounted hours.
