CUB is working to ensure tech companies pay their way so homeowners, renters and small businesses aren’t left holding the bag for power plants that ultimately might not be needed. CUB seeks safeguards to protect customers from the significant risks involved with the AI data center boom.
Alliant contract with Meta / Beaver Dam:
CUB won a big victory in May when the Public Service Commission made key changes to Alliant’s proposed contract for the Meta data center.
In a significant win for CUB, the PSC agreed that Alliant should not use one-off contracts with tech companies going forward. Instead, the PSC embraced CUB’s recommendation that Alliant use a consistent framework for all data centers. Alliant is working to develop a new plan now.
